I Owe it all to Oatmeal

Thursday, March 5th, 2009 | ,

oatmealEver have one of those days where the light bulb suddenly goes on and you know your life will never be the same? Today was one of those days. Every morning at work I eat a bowl of oatmeal. Why oatmeal? To be honest I don’t really even like oatmeal. They claim it helps reduce cholesterol but that’s not the reason either. I don’t care beans for my cholesterol level. I eat it so that I get more than one meal a day. I’ll often work straight through lunch or only have a few bites of chips and salsa so breakfast is kind of a necessity to survive. Alas, I digress. My revelation was this: why chew? All oatmeal is is a sticky mass of tiny flakes. Chewing just seems like overkill. From now on I’m just swallowing my oatmeal straight up.

Life just got that much better…

Add just a tad bit more water and you could simply drink it.

i also do oatmeal for breakfast almost every day. i do it because it’s easy and because i like it better than cereal. my favorite is raisins, dates, and walnuts and i highly recommend it.

Get the kind with Dinosaur eggs that hatch when you pour the hot water on them. Huge hit at our house!

I highly recommend oatmeal with frozen fruit and nuts on top. It’s almost as good as a green smoothie!

Rob! So if you aren’t really a fan of oatmeal, then you should give cream of wheat a try. It tastes much better and you could for sure drink it without having to chew!

Malt-0-Meal is much better than oatmeal! (That’s what we had for breakfast every day when I was growing up.) And it’s drinkable too! I thought you had smoothies for breakfast though.

Purple oatmeal is the best. Just add some frozen blueberries while it is cooking and you get your antioxidants too!!
or perhaps you could put cooked oatmeal into a green smoothie, that way you could drink it!

Your Mom said she had Malt-O-Meal every morning for breakfast while growing up. It must have been a big hit as I don’t believe she has had any in the nearly 43 years we have been married. Now that I think about it, she very rarely has breakfast. This could be my fault as I enjoy doing most of the shopping. I must add it to my shopping list. I could wrap up a box and give it as an anniversary present. Wow! the possibilities are endless.
